Beinn Duirinnis rises to approximately 600 metres and is part of the rugged terrain of the Cowal Peninsula. Its name, meaning "Black Hill" in Gaelic, may reflect its heath-covered slopes or the dark appearance of its quartzite and schist geology. The hill contributes to the regional identity of Cowal and is valued for its natural landscape and walking opportunities.
