What is recorded here
Gateway, extant 1902, on a symmetrical plan comprising pair of finial-topped cast-iron octagonal piers supporting looped wrought iron double gates with finial-topped cast-iron octagonal outer piers supporting looped wrought iron railings. Road fronted at entrance to grounds of Bawnmore House.
A gateway not only making a pleasing visual statement in a sylvan street scene at the entrance on to the grounds of the Bawnmore House estate, but also illustrating the continued development or "improvement" of the estate in the later nineteenth century.
This does not grant access. Most recorded buildings are privately owned; view them only from public ground unless the owner allows entry.
