Bawn in Newcastle stands as a ten-metre wall fragment beside a tower house in County Wexford, marking the edge of a defended home. The stone survives although soil tests found no deeper trace, suggesting the bawn remained visible long after its makers stopped shaping it. It is a sharp boundary preserved by chance, waiting for people to imagine the doors, dogs and arguments that once filled the space it enclosed.

A fragment of a bawn wall (L 10.6m; H 2m; T 0.75m) runs N from the NW angle of the tower house (WX042-024001-). Archaeological testing (07E0901) immediately to the N produced no archaeological material (Purcell 2010). Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 28 May, 2013
