Bawn in Frehans is a vanished castle and enclosure on a south-facing slope above the River Tar, recorded in the Civil Survey of 1654-6 as an old castle within an old bawne. The land is now pasture, and the bawn has given up every stone, edge and room it once held. What remains is a name saved from forgetting and a place where imagination must build what the earth erased.

On a S-facing slope, c. 50m N of the River Tar, in gently undulating pasture. Indicated as a 'Castle' on the 1st (1840) ed. OS 6-inch map and as a 'Castle (site of)' on the 1904-05 edition. The monument is referred to in the Civil Survey (1654-6) as 'an old castle within an old Bawne' (Simington 1931, vol. 1, 334).
