BAWN in Brannock

BAWN

What is recorded here

Brannock still holds a bawn, a fortified enclosure born in the post-medieval era when people needed walls against uncertainty. The stone circle may have guarded a home, a treasury or a family line, while storms and invaders passed overhead. That much is clear from the surviving shape. The rest belongs to imagination, which is where memory becomes alive.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as BAWN. Recorded period: C17TH; POST-MED. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
