BATTLE SITE, 1689 in Ballyrenan; Demesne OF Down

BATTLE SITE, 1689

What is recorded here

Down demesne still carries the shape of a 1689 battle, though no weapon or bone remains visible. The land may have swallowed horses, coats and shouted orders in a single afternoon, leaving only a changed line in the grass. To walk Ballyrenan is to touch the edge of that lost violence, not the event itself.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as BATTLE SITE, 1689. Recorded period: POST-MED; C17TH. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
