Major engagement of the Wars of the Roses; Lancastrian victory against the House of York
Fought on December 30, 1460, the Battle of Wakefield saw Lancastrian forces under Lord Clifford defeat a Yorkist army led by Richard, Duke of York, who was killed in the battle. The victory was significant as it temporarily halted Yorkist advances and reinforced Henry VI's position, but ultimately the Yorkists regrouped and continued their campaign for the throne.
