The Battle of Trafalgar was fought between the British Royal Navy and the combined fleets of France and Spain on 21 October 1805. Although the British, led by Admiral Horatio Nelson, won a decisive victory, it came at the cost of Nelson's life; the battle secured British naval supremacy for over a century.
