Fought between the Houses of Lancaster and York on 29 March 1461 during the Wars of the Roses, the Battle of Towton resulted in a decisive Yorkist victory that placed Edward IV on the English throne. The battle was one of the largest and bloodiest in English history and marked a turning point in the war, shifting the balance of power decisively in favor of the Yorkists.
