Battle of the Winwaed is a major battle site with a checked map point.
The Battle of the Winwaed was fought in 655 CE between the Northumbrian forces of King Oswiu and the Mercian army led by Penda of Mercia. Oswiu's victory ended Penda's dominance in northern England and marked a turning point in the Anglo-Saxon Heptarchy, securing Northumbrian influence over southern England.
