Dungan's Hill in County Meath is where over 3,000 Irish Confederates died on 8 August 1647 after Thomas Preston marched his army into wheat so tall it hid the English until they were already inside the line. The trapped cavalry, crowded infantry and broken formations bled the Confederate Leinster army dry, leaving Preston and a few thousand men to flee while the rest perished on ground now forgotten by most maps.
