The Battle of Dublin began on June 28, 1922, when street fighting erupted across the city, marking the violent start of the Irish Civil War. Anti-Treaty forces seized fourteen buildings on O’Connell Street, creating a fortified block where they tunneled through walls to move supplies and men. While soldiers enjoyed stolen chocolates and thick blankets inside the Hammond Hotel, snipers picked off targets from rooftops and mines threatened the streets below. Civilians like hotel owner Annie Farrington remained trapped within the crossfire, watching their homes become battlegrounds while the war consumed the heart of the nation.
