The Battle of Culloden was fought on this moor 16th April 1746.
The Battle of Culloden was fought between the Jacobite forces led by Charles Edward Stuart and the British government army commanded by the Duke of Cumberland on 16th April 1746. The British victory ended the Jacobite rising of 1745 and led to the suppression of the Highland way of life, significantly altering Scottish political and cultural history.
