Battery

Battery No. 8 (Kerrigan 1995, 170), located at the end of Vico Road, overlooking Killiney Bay. Martello Tower (DU026-011----) 460m to SW. Battery was constructed between 1804-05 as part of the Sea Fencibles of the Dublin coastline (Turner 1983, 92-3). Battery described by Kerrigan (1995, 173) as follows; 'situated on a low cliff some fifty feet above sea level and overlooking the beach, was battery no. 8. It was evidently demolished by the railway company in 1868 and was the site for the first Killiney station a few hundred yards north of the present station) where the coast road turns inland'.
