What is recorded here

In rough pasture within a forest clearing 100m NW of the townland boundary with Newtown. The ring-barrow is not depicted on historic OSi maps, but is visible on OSi orthoimages taken 2005-12. Identified by Bruff aerial photographic survey in 1986 (Bruff 40; AP 4/3625) as a circular ring-barrow (ext. diam. c. 10m). The ring-barrow is not visible on the most recent Google Earth orthoimage taken 18/11/2018. Ring-barrow, likely dating to the Early Bronze Age. Its presence indicates a local funerary tradition and may be part of a broader pattern of burial practices in the region.
