Barrow

In wet pasture, on gentle SE-facing slope, 260m SE of Glenatrahaun Stream. A ring-barrow (LI024-216001-) lies 190m to S, with a cluster of sites (LI024--066/217-/218-/291-) lie 70m to E. Not depicted on OSi historic maps. Surveyed by the ASI in 2008 and described as a circular-shaped area (diam. 26m) defined by a much degraded bank (Wth 12.7m; int. H 0.45m; ext. H 0.35m) visible from W-N-E only, berm (Wth 4-6m) only visible from WNW-N-ENE, fosse (Wth 5.8m; D 0.45m) and outer bank (Wth 11.8m; int. H 0.45m; ext. H 0.55m) only visible from NW-N-ENE. Monument is visible as a circular-shaped earthwork on Digital Globe orthophotos taken 2011-13 and on Google Earth orthoimages taken 25/03/2017. A ring-barrow, likely dating to the Early Bronze Age, associated with a burial tradition of circular earthen mounds; its location within a cluster of sites suggests a broader ritual or funerary landscape.
