In pasture,140m S of townland boundary with Ballinstona North, a possible ditch-barrow (LI040-275----) lies 115m to the SE. Not marked on OSi historic maps. Identified by the Bruff aerial photographic survey in 1986 (Bruff 142, AP 5/2115) as a circular cropmark of a possible barrow. Trace of monument visible as a circular cropmark (diam. c. 5m) on OSi orthophotograph taken between 2005-2012 and on Google Earth orthoimage dated 16/03/2016. Ditch barrow, likely dating to the Early Bronze Age. Its identification through aerial photography highlights the value of such surveys in uncovering unmarked prehistoric monuments.
