Barrettstown Castle is a four-storey limestone tower house in County Tipperary, built with a base-batter, dressed quoins and a pointed doorway once closed by an iron yett. In 1593 Thomas Mac Donnogh Ro O'Carran lost it for treason, George Sherlock took it as a grant and soon sold it to the Earl of Ormond for £80, while by the 1650s Civil Survey it belonged to Nicholas Everard of Fethard and was wanting repair. A small limestone quarry lies 33 metres northeast, and stone walls still run toward the castle’s corners. Inside, a south doorway leads into a lobby defended by a cross-loop, a spiral staircase is tucked into the southwest angle, and the third floor holds a vaulted ceiling still marked by wicker-centring, with windows on all four walls and a cusped ogee-headed opening facing northeast.
