The *Baron Ardrossan* was a British steamship built in 1913 that was torpedoed and sunk by a German U-boat (U-110) on 23 April 1940 during the Second World War in the Sea of the Hebrides, off the coast of Sandray, Lewis. Of the 32 crew members, 21 were killed, and the ship was carrying a cargo of coal; its loss contributed to the growing awareness of the vulnerability of merchant shipping in British waters during the early years of the war.
