What is recorded here
Detached three-bay single-storey gate lodge to Ballyfree House, built c.1840. The gate lodge is finished in render and has a lean-to addition to the west rear. The panelled front door is set within a pointed arch-headed opening. Window openings are flat-headed with two over two timber sash frames. The pitched roof has a wide overhang and is finished in natural slate with cast-iron rainwater goods. The chimneystack is rendered with a plain cap and clay pots. The gate lodge is set outside the main house gates.
This gate lodge is charming in its simplicity. It is valuable in its own right but, added to the main house, it also has a strong group value.
This does not grant access. Most recorded buildings are privately owned; view them only from public ground unless the owner allows entry.
