What is recorded here

One chamber remains standing at Ballyallia, a tower house in County Clare that lost most of its structure to time. It is the smallest castle in the county, yet it still points upward like a finger pressing through forgotten years. The missing walls do not weaken the place; they remove everything that would explain why the tower endures.

Ballyallia Castle was built in the late 16th century by the MacNamara clan, a prominent Gaelic family in Clare. It is remembered as an example of early tower house architecture in the region and reflects the defensive needs of local chieftains during the late medieval period.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
