Ballina House

Early 17th centurymap in the Public Record Office (PRO M PF/268) shows 3 dwellings within this townland (Loeber 1988, vol. 1, 13-14). The OS has an area maked Bawn on the current ed. OS 6-inch map. Today this is the site of a 19th century hosue which the owner says was built in the seventeenth century. No fabric of 17th centurybuilding is visible. Current house may have been built on the site of the 17th century houses. These lands are classed as Protestant lands in the Books of Survey and Distribution when the townland is listed as 'Ballinrath' (RIA, MS G IV, 2) and may have been in the possession of Lawrence Hammond of Rahan's land (Loeber 1988, vol. 1, 13-14).
