Gateway, c.1850, comprising pair of cut-granite panelled piers with carved cornices supporting cut-granite capping, iron double gates having cast-iron finials, sections of iron flanking railings incorporating pedestrian gates, granite ashlar panelled outer piers with carved cornices supporting cut-granite capping, and random rubble limestone boundary wall to perimeter of site having cut-limestone coping. Set back from line of road at entrance to grounds of Ballaghtobin.

An elegantly-appointed Classically-detailed gateway exhibiting expert stone masonry in notoriously durable locally-sourced County Carlow granite. Embellished iron work further enhances the aesthetic aspirations of a composition forming a self-contained group alongside an attendant lodge (12402729/KK-27-29) with the resulting ensemble making a pleasing visual statement at the entrance to the grounds of Ballaghtobin.
