Backways Cove in Cornwall consists of sedimentary rocks, primarily Devonian-age slates and shales, formed from accumulated marine sediments under pressure over 380 million years ago. The cove is notable for its well-preserved coastal erosion features and the exposure of folded rock layers, which provide insights into the tectonic history of the region.
