Castle Mains Farm still stands where the Drummond tower fell, its walls perhaps rebuilt from castle stone stripped in the 1780s. A royal castle occupied Auchterarder in the 13th century, and a modest tower appeared on maps by the late 1500s, but Stobie named the place a farm in 1786 after the castle had become ruins. The old tower may have been broken open like a quarry, its bricks carried into ordinary rooms where people still live.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Auchterarder Castle as Castle (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
Auchterarder Castle was built in the 13th century by the de Moravia family, later held by the Drummonds. It is remembered as a strategic stronghold in the Scottish Borders region.
