Art O'Connor was born in Celbridge in 1888 and died there in 1950, completing a life spent shaping Irish law and politics. He left Elm Hall to challenge British rule, voted against the Treaty, and later returned to judge in Cork before coming home to die unmarried. The town gave him life and took it back, binding his personal story to the wider struggle for Irish independence.
