Armorial plaque in Oldbridge

Formerly located in the W wall of a house in Weir View terrace, Oldbridge. Lyons (1934, 264) describes a sculptured stone which 'shows the figure of a cat, with what may be a collar round its nect. It is suggested that this represents the crest of the Clanricarde and Mayo De Burghs [a cat-a-mountain sejant guardant proper collared and chained or] and also, presumably, of the Earls of Ulster: the stone may have come from the old Manor Mill of Clonmel, which was rebuilt as a creamery about the time the house was built. If so it is a memento of the De Burghs as Barons of Clonmel' (Ó Comáin 1991, 145). The stone was still visible in the wall of the house until the late 1980s or early 1990s but was then removed.
