Excavation at 24 Mary St (Excavation Licence number 93E0167) revealed a layer of organic occupation debris, of probable medieval date, 2.6m below the modern ground level and another pocket (dims. 2.5m N-S; 4m E-W; D 1.21m) of clays and organics uncovered, 0.62m below the modern ground surface was probably also medieval (Wren 1994, 74). The layers were interpreted as being the remains of a sequence of at least two clay floors at three deposits of occupation debris (ibid.).
