Armorial plaque in Knocktophermanor

Armorial plaque

What is recorded here

Knocktophermanor gave up one of two Butler plaques, marking Ormond on stone before men forgot the name. The plaque left Garrison Castle and entered the north wall of St. David's Graveyard, where castle pride became graveyard company. It is not a display now, but a buried claim, waiting for someone to read Ormond and remember the house that made the mark.
This record relates to the original location of an armorial plaque. One of two armorial plaques, originally from 'Garrison Castle' (KK031-017002-), inserted in the external face of the N wall of St. David's Graveyard (KK031-017006-) and bearing the shield of the Butler family with the word 'Ormond'. (Farrelly et al. 1993, vol. 1, 179) See KK031-017007- for present location. Compiled by: Mary Tunney Date of upload: 21 December 2011
