What is recorded here

Two plaques, one dated 1602 and the other 1620, still carry the FitzGerald name from Ballyshannon Castle. They are not display pieces but survivors, pulled from a building that no longer exists in the form that made them. The first plaque bears a coat of arms, the second only a date, as if time itself had become enough to mark the house. Together they preserve a lost chamber, a forgotten wall, and the people who stood before it.

According to Bradley et al. (1986 vol. 3, 254), two plaques; one bearing the Fitzgerald coat of arms and dated 1602, the second plaque dated 1620. Both came from Ballyshannon Castle (KD028-058001-). Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy Date of upload: 9 February 2012
