Ardnaree Raised Fairy Fort — Report the wrong picture

Half a century of ploughing and wall-building has sanded the edge of Ardnaree into a smooth, flat-topped mound, yet it still rises two metres above the pasture like a forgotten drum. The fort belongs to no human king in the local tongue; it is a fairy stronghold, off limits at dusk and dangerous to disturb. What remains is a subcircular platform, wide enough to hold a room or a ritual, set on the brow of a steep slope where the land itself seems to have been shaped rather than built.

The single-ringed 'fort' shown on the 1st and 2nd editions of the OS 6-inch maps now consists of a flat-topped earthen platform subcircular in plan c. 26m NW-SE and 20m NE-SW where it has been partially levelled. It is raised from 1m to 2m above the surrounding land. Modern stone walls run along the edge on the S and W. The site is located on flat ground at the top of a steep W facing slope in good pasture.
