Architectural fragment in St. Patricksrock

At the rear of O'Brien's hostel, which is a converted outbuilding, on Mountjudkin Road, c. 200m NE of Hore Abbey (TS061-024001-), two buttress have been constructed using salvaged stone. The ground level is c. 1m lower adjacent to the outbuilding than the rest of the yard. A limestone jamb (L 0.85m; Wth 0.26; D 0.36m) with a chamfered edge (Wth 0.07m; H 0.55m), has been built into the most westerly buttress. It lies horiztally 0.35m above the lower ground level. The chamfer curves at the top, forming the spring of the former arched opening. The stone has punch dressing and a drafted margin. The original context for this stone is unknown but it is likely to have come from a building in Cashel. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 25 February 2014
