Architectural fragment in Ratass

Architectural fragment

What is recorded here

Death and rebirth repeated. That is baptism. The church in Ratass still carries the basal remains of a possible font on its south wall. Water gave life, removed shadow, and returned the person to the world. The fragment records that much older ceremony inside the newer building.
The basal remains of a possible baptismal font or stoup now concreted onto the south elevation of Ratass church (KE029-157001-). See attached plan and photograph courtesy of Laurence Dunne Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 29 April 2022

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
