Architectural fragment in Barragh

O'Toole wrote in 1938 that a circular stone sat outside Barragh church, but nobody has found it since. The church may have stood there for centuries before the stone vanished, perhaps buried under grass or carried away by someone who never thought to ask permission. A circular stone is not a common shape for a church marker, which suggests it belonged to something older that the church absorbed or replaced. The ground outside Barragh may still hold the answer, waiting for someone to dig shallow and listen.
