Kilcreen Lodge, built around 1860 in County Kilkenny, still holds a late-17th century chimney-piece taken from Kilcreen House after that older building was demolished in the 1950s. The piece crossed roughly four hundred metres of local ground to keep burning in a newer room while the house that first warmed it disappeared beneath a hospital. It is not a display object behind glass but a living part of the lodge, carrying the heat and presence of a lost building into ordinary daily use.

Currently built into Kilcreen Lodge, which was built c. 1860 (Bence-Jones 1988, 166), there is what Craig (1973, 106) described as, 'a very fine late-17th century chimney-piece'. It came from Kilcreen House (KK019-021004-), c. 430m to the SW, which was demolished in the 1950s and a hospital built in the grounds in 1959.
