Archibald Montgomery-Massingberd was born in Fivemiletown, County Tyrone, on 6 December 1871. He became Chief of the Imperial General Staff and shaped the permanent Mobile Division that later evolved into armoured warfare. A boy from a Ulster landowner's house went on to command the greatest army the world had ever assembled.
