What is recorded here

Chesterhill Castle stands in Anstruther Wester as a medieval ruin marked only by a mound, cists and a well. The absence of walls does not diminish the place; it removes the false certainty that a castle must still wear stones. A mound may be a demolished keep, a buried chamber or a hill that swallowed both. The cists and well suggest people lived there long enough to believe death and thirst would continue.
