Annie Scott Dill Maunder was born in Strabane, County Tyrone, Ireland on 14 April 1868, the daughter of a Presbyterian minister and a woman from a clerical family. She later became a Northern Irish astronomer and mathematician who worked at the Royal Observatory Greenwich and was the first to find evidence that sunspots emerge near the poles and drift toward the equator over the sun's 11-year cycle.
