Andrew Blayney, 11th Baron Blayney

Castleblayney was the birthplace of Andrew Blayney, 11th Baron Blayney, who lived there from 1770 to 1834 and commanded the 89th Regiment of Foot through wars from Flanders to Spain. He raided Fuengirola with a small force, was captured by Polish soldiers, and spent four years in French captivity before returning to claim a parliamentary seat and leave his sabre behind in Kraków. The house that gave him life also witnessed his marriage, his absence, and his death, making it a chamber where military pride and personal loss collided.
