What is recorded here

Anderton Boat Lift, designed by engineer Edward Leader Williams and completed in 1875, was the first boat lift in the world to use a hydraulic system to raise and lower vessels between the River Mersey and the Shropshire Union Canal. It was important for improving navigation and freight transport in the region and was restored in the late 20th century, becoming a key heritage attraction in Cheshire.
