An Clèireach

Headland

What is recorded here

An Clèireach is a sea cliff or coastal rock feature composed of Lewisian gneiss, some of the oldest rocks in the British Isles, dating back approximately 2700 to 3000 million years. These highly metamorphosed rocks formed deep within the Earth's crust through intense heat and pressure and were later exposed by erosion, making the site notable for its ancient geological history.
