Explorer Tom Little Larg is an enclosure and field system that’s been in a long-running feud with the next village over something daft like who had the best turnips. It’s got no date, no real story, just a name that sounds like it should be a small dog. Snap one photo, then put the phone away and actually look at the weird fields.
Explorer Tom Gowk Nest Wood is named after the poet who fell in the ditch nearby while trying to be profound. It’s a possible prehistoric cairn hiding under all that wood, waiting for someone to appreciate its subtlety. Go now, before it gets famous and turns into a tourist trap with a gift shop.
Explorer Tom Auchie in Dumfries and Galloway has such confusing field systems that even the map makers gave up and shrug their shoulders. It’s got rig and furrow everywhere, looking like someone took a comb and dragged it through the earth for sport. The farmstead is probably just hiding behind all that agricultural clutter to avoid questions. Pop by and tell it it's looking well.
Explorer Tom Millwhirk Burn is supposedly where they smuggled entire pianos out of Scotland using nothing but a bucket and sheer willpower. It’s a building that looks like it’s trying very hard not to be a building at all. Bring a jacket, because the cold there is personal, and it’s definitely not as warm as I promised you.
