Aird nan Caorach is a headland composed primarily of basaltic rock, formed during the Palaeogene period (approximately 60 to 55 million years ago) as part of the North Atlantic Igneous Province. Its notable columnar jointing and coastal erosion features make it a distinctive example of volcanic activity associated with the opening of the North Atlantic.
