What is recorded here

This blue commemorative plaque records: The Workhouse. A Workhouse called Priory Mount was built on this site during 1837-1839. It continued in use until the Second World War when it became a hospital, subsequently serving as a unit of The County Hospital and Withybush General Hospital. It was converted into flats in 1982. Recorded plaque organisation: Haverfordwest Civic Society, Haverfordwest Town Council.
The Workhouse at Priory Mount served Haverfordwest from 1837 to the Second World War, reflecting the era's Poor Law system designed to provide relief for the destitute and unemployed. Post-war, it transitioned into medical use, first as a hospital and later as part of Withybush General Hospital, illustrating shifts in social welfare and healthcare provision.

A plaque record does not grant entry to a building or private land. View it from a public place unless permission is clearly given.
