Woodhouses Hill Fort

Woodhouses Hill Fort stands at 137 metres on the Mid Cheshire Ridge, where steep western cliffs and a four-metre stone revetted rampart created a defensible position during the Iron Age. Small rounded slingstones recovered in 1951 suggest occupants threw projectiles across the gently sloping northern and eastern approaches rather than waiting for assault. The fort still belongs to the living landscape inside Snidley Moor Wood, preserving a place where human ingenuity met Cheshire topography.
