WOODEN FISH TRAP in Ballyurnanellan; South Island

WOODEN FISH TRAP

What is recorded here

No trap remains visible, but the medieval timber frame likely bit into the local water and forced fish into a narrow kill. Ballyurnanellan gave up its catch because people shaped the river rather than waiting for it to give itself away. The wood may have rotted, yet the idea still runs beneath the land like a hidden current.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as WOODEN FISH TRAP. Recorded period: MEDIEVAL. Recorded protection: Scheduled. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
