Wooden stakes still mark the Ballyurnanellan shore, proving medieval fishers trusted craft rather than chance. They drove timber into the tide and waited for the river to do the rest. The trap turned water into a temporary room, forcing salmon and bass into a narrow place where human hands could reach them.
