Will Yo Come O' Sunday Morning? On Sunday 6th September 1896 10,000 Boltonians marched by this spot to reclaim an ancient right of way over Winter Hill. The path is now dedicated as a public right of way for the enjoyment of all. 6th September 1996.
The Winter Hill Trespass Memorial commemorates the 1896 protest when 10,000 people from Bolton marched to reclaim public access to Winter Hill, an important event in the history of the right to roam in England. It is associated with the broader movement for public access to open spaces and reflects local efforts to preserve communal rights against enclosure.
