In County Down, a windmill stump from the eighteenth century still stands as a scheduled monument, its shape reduced but its purpose unchanged. The building is gone, yet the stump remains the visible center of a place once turned by air and human labour. It is small enough to overlook and old enough to stop a person mid-step.
