What is recorded here

Lazars Hilll, County Dublin: Mr Hawkins windmill on the south Liffey bank in 1683. No trace remains. A mill needs only wind, water and someone to tend it, so perhaps it stood briefly, ground local grain and vanished when the river or road changed. The absence does not erase the function; it preserves the shape of a small working life now folded into the bank.

A map dated 1683 shows 'Mr Hawkins windmill' at Lazars Hilll on the south bank of the river Liffey (De Courcy 1996, 219). No visible trace.

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
